or maybe steal one of those women from 'conviction'.

Alex Cabot, the ADA on Conviction, has already had a stint on SVU as the same character she plays now. In my opinion, they should get a young guy to be ADA -- someone that Jack can mentor and go head to head with when they disagree. The writers have been far too wrapped up in bringing the perfect 10 to the ADA position that they've lost site of what ADA's do -- they try cases!!! Annie Parisse and Elizabeth Rohm before her were nothing but window dressing. Bring someone like Rob Lowe, Eric Balfour, Dule Hill or Sharif Atkins to Law and Order. Give them some morals and conscience, hire them as ADAs, and watch the fireworks!!!

They might as well have a guy ADA this time, since they've done such a dismal job with their female ADAs ever since Jamie. They wasted a great opporunity with Abby, portrayed Serena way too much of the time as a deer caught in the headlights, etc. I think an African-American male ADA would rock.

Of all the women characters on the various L&O series, the only one who bears even a vague similarity to any of the women with whom I worked in that office is Christina Nicholson, played by the actress Julianne Moore on "Conviction."

As to African Americans, Billy Desmond, played by J. August Richards on Conviction and Courtney B. Vance as Assistant District Attorney Ron Carver on "Crminal Intent" are fairly accurate.

On the other hand, A.D.A. Brian Peluso, played by Eric Balfour on "Conviction," is a vulgar stereotype of Italian Americans. My mentor in that office was Italian American and I am pretty certain he was not in debt to loan sharks nor did he employ detectives to intimidate his landlord.

While it has been a number of years since I left the job, I think it safe to say that the only past or present A.D.A for which Rob Lowe would be suited to play would be the late John F. Kennedy Jr., who was a poor lawyer and who got his job through political connections while the rest of us had to make do with MERIT.

Well, now that CONVICTIONS has been cancelled, what do you think are the chances of Stephanie March bringing her character of Alex Cabot to L&O? She started out on SVU and jumped to Convictions. Her character is familiar and believable. I don't think it would be a bad idea to bring her on board.

Note: just because Eric Balfour portrayed a bad stereotype of an Italian-American on Convictions doesn't mean he'd be a bad choice as an ADA on L&O. They don't have to resurrect the character of Brian Peluso. If you had the opportunity to watch Eric Balfour on Six Feet Under, you'd know his acting capabilities.

I have read a number of the "real world" posts and not they seem to be the basis for evaluating actors. Newsflash!!! It is a TV drama series, not real life. Actors play parts that may be in keeping with your experience or not. In "real life" we separate them from their characters and realize they can play other parts and might do very well on another show with a different character. Also, there are prosecutors’ offices all around the country, and the people in them may not mirror the people in your experience. That does not make them more or less legitimate. Similarly the characters on TV do not have to mirror the characters in any office, even the one they portray on TV.

              Sol,

I have a newsflash for you. The best drama is that which is believable. If "Law and Order" wants to keep its credibility it needs to stay believable. That means keeping the law accurate as well as the characters.

What next, you want the judges' rulings on the show to go contrary to the law if it will make good drama?

This is a show about the Manhattant District Attorney's Office and the NYPD. It's not "Star Trek."
