Farina Exits, Govich Joins Law & Order
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
May 31, 2006

Dennis Farina is leaving NBC's crime drama Law & Order after two years, while Milena Govich, who co-starred in Conviction, Dick Wolf's midseason drama for NBC, has come on board Wolf's flagship "L&O" series.

On "L&O," from Wolf Films and NBC Universal Network TV, Farina played Detective Joe Fontana, who investigated crimes and apprehended suspects with partner Edward Green (Jesse L. Martin).

Farina had succeeded longtime "L&O" star Jerry Orbach, whose character on the show, Detective Lennie Briscoe, transitioned to Wolf's Law & Order: Trial by Jury until Orbach's death in late 2004.

Govich is said to be considered for two roles on "L&O" -- the new partner of Detective Green and a new cop joining the department -- with sources indicating that she likely would fill the void left by Farina and work alongside Martin.

After airing Wednesdays since its launch in 1990, "L&O" will move to Friday in the fall.

Folks, this ends my watching of this series. I realize that the target audience is not attorneys like me (and even on top of that, I worked in that office), but nonetheless, the story line has to have some connection to reality. After all, none of you would believe it if a judge on the show said that someone was presumed guilty until proven innocent, right?

In the last episode, the judge was shown issuing what we call a Judgment Notwithsanding the Verdict. These are so rare that saying they happen once a year would be pushing it. And this judge did it without a defense motion and without hearing the prosecution.

On top of that, he also took it upon himself to dismiss the indictment. Well, ordinarily, a motion to dismiss an indictment is made before the trial, not after and I am not even going to bother looking into the New York Criminal Procedure Law to see if this is possible.

What hurt the worse was that BeBe Neuwirth is heard saying resignedly that nothing can be done. Hell no!

In reality, two things would happen:

1) an immediate appeal to the Appellate Division of State Supreme Court which would undoubtedly reverse the judge's ruling; and

2) a complain to the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct.

If I want to watch fantasy fiction, I guess I always have "Star Trek."

The only fault that I (in my 'this-show-is-perfect' mantilla) can see is Eames involvement. I mean, I love Vincent, I know Goren is a super cop and a half but it just erks once in awhile when he figures out *to much* Like, did anyone see that one episode on not to long ago where he caught something the *Medical Examiner* missed? That's what I mean. I have no problem when he does his Sherlock Holmes bit, but when he starts having to do the ME's job as well, I just want to say stop.
Oh yeah, Eames. Like I said, I know Vincent is the star of the show, hell it *is* his show, but it's a partnership. If they don't want people to start hating Eames because they never let her do anything and therefore we all sit here and say "Now, why is she there again?" I think they should have her more involved in the show.
Forgoing all the Shipperness of the show- look at the XFiles. Let's face it people, that was an awesome show. Never mind the last season or so, I'm talking prime time XF. Never mind the love triangles, the weird cases, look at the partnership- that's what I'm talking about. Mulder was a great profiler- was right most of the time, but he needed Scully. They worked off each other, Mulder was good at profiling, Scully at science. A partnership.
I don't want another Mulder/Scully relationship, that’s not what I'm saying. If it was a carbon copy of the XF I wouldn't like it. I just wish they would balance Goren and Eames partnership out more. Still with me? Sorry about the ranting but I needed to know if I'm the only one who thinks like this. Anyone else? Don’t be shy :)

LOS ANGELES, -- NBC Universal will collect a record $1.92
million an episode from its sale of "Law & Order: Criminal
Intent" for syndication, Daily Variety reports. The paper
said the sale -- to the USA Network and its sister channel
Bravo -- eclipses the previous record of $1.9 million that
Spike will pay for exclusive cable rights to "CSI: NY."
That deal is said to be in its final stages. TNT paid $1.4
million per episode in November for rights to "Cold Case"
-- the highest figure TNT has ever paid for a rerun hour,
Variety said. The record license fee for "Intent" comes
even though the series has had declining ratings this
season on NBC -- largely because it is on opposite ABC's
breakout hit "Desperate Housewives."

Orbach starred for 12 seasons in the original "Law & Order" series, but left to head the spin-off "Law & Order: Trial by Jury," set to debut next year.
Orbach began playing Detective Lennie Briscoe in 1992, the original show's third season.

Born in the Bronx, he was in the original cast of the off-off-Broadway hit "The Fantasticks" and has appeared in such films as "Dirty Dancing," "Prince of the City" and "Crimes and Misdemeanors."

There's the sweet and compassionate Elizabeth Olivet. She's a great listener, and I'd choose her for a therapist if I had emotional or family concerns.

There's the brainiac, profiler, sort of detached George Huang. I don't think he does therapy, but I'd love to go to some sort of gruesome crime museum with him, and then take him for a beer and get him to loosen up a bit!

And then there's the no-nonsense, but empathetic Emil Skoda. I'd choose him for a therapist if I had behaviors I needed to change. I think he'd be tough, but fun!

I recently went to court on a civil matter, with an attorney (let me start off right here with the dissapointment train, she was not feisty, sexy or former child star) tho she was pretty darn affordable and pretty good at her game. So anyways, there I am standing in front of the judge, who didn't seem to give a damn about what we were talking about, the table we sat at was obvious wood laminate and the courtroom didn't even have any huge soaring windows. The lights were just florecent for goodness sake! And worst of all...::shudder::...there was no big "donk-donk" to signal that our trial had begun or ended.

:::sigh::: a totally dissapointing experience all the way around. Winning wasn't nearly so fun as it would have been if things were done like on LaO. Reality just bites sometimes.
